Dates: Sunday, June 12 – Saturday, June 18

Ages: 18 – 35

Location: Monastery of St. John, 21770 Ponderosa Way, Manton, CA 96059

Directions: When driving north on the I-5, take the 2nd exit in Red Bluff, left on Antelope Blvd/CA 36E. Next, turn left on 36 E, follow this road for 11 miles, turn left on Manton Road, drive 15 miles until you come to a fork in the road at Manton corners. At the fork, turn right onto Forward Road. Drive 3.8 miles until you see a mailbox painted like a Holstein cow on the right side of the road, after this landmark, Ponderosa is the next road on the left. Take a left on Ponderosa Way (it is a dirt road) and drive .75 miles until you come to the driveway of the monastery on the right. Drive to the cross and take a left to reach the main building with the double doors.

Fee: $250.  A completed application together with a deposit of $50 is required by May 15th, to reserve your place.  Payment can be sent as a donation by Paypal: https://monasteryofstjohn.org/visitor-info/get-involved/  Please type "Orthodox LIFE School" in the field provided, which says "add special instructions to seller."  Alternatively, payment can be made by check sent to: Monastery of St. John, PO Box 439, Manton, CA 96059.  Make checks payable to the "Monastery of St John".  Please indicate "Orthodox LIFE School" on the check.  The final $200 is due on June 12th.

Facilities: The monastery will provide rooms for students and staff. We have two fully equipped buildings available for guests. Meals will be provided in the main building.

Preparation: Applicants are encouraged to prepare themselves spiritually for this event by praying for God’s direction and blessing. They are encouraged to prepare themselves psychologically by going on a voluntary “media fast” one week prior to the school. Internet access will not be available during the school. Applicants are encouraged to come with an attitude of wanting to learn and be challenged. They are encouraged to come with an “ear to hear” what God’s will is for their life.

What to bring: Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, comb/brush, sunscreen, flashlight, water bottle, Bible, change of clothes including long pants (to work in), sweater, jacket, work shoes/boots. A cap and long-sleeve T or work shirts for sun protection are recommended. The weather in Manton in June is moderate but, since we are at 3,000 feet, you can expect the nights to be cool and the days to be warm to hot. All clothing is assumed to be modest and appropriate to an Orthodox Christian witness. No “electronic devices” (ipods, mp3s, iphones, etc).
