Foods/Fashions (Miss Toeckes) - An introduction of safety and equipment will start this course.Through several labs students will learn proper measuring, cutting and cooking techniques. Labs may include breakfasts, soup, simple lunches and suppers.
Sew Be It! - This hands-on course reviews proper threading of the sewing machine, equipment and safety. You will learn how to properly pin patterns on grain, follow the symbols on the pattern and the written instructions to complete a pair of flannel pajama bottoms. If that isn’t enough, learn to sew in a zipper while making a lined pencil case. This project is independent and uses videos to guide you along.Band ( Mrs McLaren) - Learn a band instrument! In this option you get to learn a band instrument, it doesn’t matter if you have never taken band before, all are welcome!
Construction (Mr. LaGrange) Construction 9 is a continuation of the grade 8 program. Students will continue their work in working with plans and drawings, move into the advanced use of power tools, and undertake projects with increased attention to detail with a focus on skill development. Potential collaboration with Notre Dame Highschool construction program.
Design Thinking (Mrs. Lansing ) - Try out our new school laser! In Design Thinking, you will be able to select a project that interests you and make it come to life using laser technology. Working clocks, decorative signs, layered shadow boxes, and more!
Art (Mrs. MacLure) - Share and develop your creative side through a variety of visual art lessons and projects. Main focuses of this option will be on realistic compositions exploring line, value and shading as well as colour theory.
Learning Opportunities (Mrs. Matus) - This Learning Opportunities section will be focused mainly on keeping caught up in Math & Science, as well as working on organizational and study skills to allow for greater success in your classes.
Leadership (Mrs. Finnigan) - Exploring topics such as diversity, historical injustice, and discrimiation. Learning about groups that are trying to make change as well as we will be developing ideas for change.
Community Connections (Mrs. Chatwood) - Volunteer and Learn a Career! In this course, you will be leaving the building to join different parts of the Red Deer community. VOLUNTEER! Some aspects will include volunteerism (reading with seniors, supporting Red Deer library, Soup Kitchens, and more). CAREER! The second portion of this course will include learning about careers. For this, we will have a combination of guest speakers and trips outside the building to visit companies/businesses to learn about the careers there.
Genious Hour (Mrs. Pasiuk) - Students will have the opportunity to choose, create and research a project that interests them the most. This option is based on individual gifts, talents and interests.
