AHCC and The Jewish Federation of Edmonton's StopHate Conversation on November 29.

The Alberta Hate Crimes Committee (AHCC) and the Organization for the Prevention of Violence have been funded by the Province of Alberta to research the scope and impact of hate-motivated crimes and incidents in Alberta. The Province’s Hate Crime Coordination Unit will provide organizational support, supplemental police data, and information from the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service. They have engaged Abdulkadir Abdi, who brings community and police experience, to coordinate the project.

Between October 27 and December 15, 2022, the AHCC will meet with marginalized populations impacted by hate and bias across the province better to understand the prevalence of hatred and prejudice in Alberta. A final recommendations report will be submitted to the Government of Alberta in February 2023.

During the research, every effort will be made to preserve your confidentiality. Participant data will be confidential except where the researcher is legally obligated to report specific incidents.

Your participation in this study is voluntary. It is up to you to decide whether you want to participate in the study. If you agree to participate, there may be instances where you may be requested to sign a consent form.

Should you have any questions about the study, confidentially or consent, please speak to the researcher whose information will be provided in the research document. We hope you can give the research teams your full support and participation.
