European Dialogue on Human Rights — events for judges (September—November 2022, online)
Human Rights Center “Memorial” (Berlin, Germany) and WOT Foundation (Warsaw, Poland) invite to a series of seminars for European judges “European Dialogue on Human Rights”.

This is a course of four online events on the practice of enforcement of national and international legislation by the judiciary of today's Russia.

The seminar will be held by well-known Russian human rights activists, it will be interest especially to judges who work on cases of Russian citizens. During the events, we will analyze the use of courts by Russia as part of the political persecution of independent journalists and politicians.


Event 1 (September 12, 18:00 UTC +2:00). Creation of a modern judicial system in Russia. Transformation and political subjugation (prof. Ilya Shablinskiy).

Event 2 (appr. September 29–30). Violation of existing international and national laws by the Russian authorities. The role of the judiciary in this process.

Event 3 (appr. October 14–15). Political rights of Russian citizens. Election fraud and lack of competition: how Russian courts are involved in this issue.

Event 4 (final, appr. November 10–11). The practice of enforcement of criminal law against political activists in Russia. Falsification of criminal cases: from the preliminary investigation to the verdict.

All events will be held online. The working language of the events is English. Each event is approximately 2 hours long.
