Living an Examined Life: Retreat Application

What is the purpose of your education at Williams College? What are you currently learning, unlearning, and craving to experience and explore? How does your liberal arts experience at Williams connect (or not connect) to the ideas, ambitions, and big questions you have for yourself and the rest of your life?

We invite current Williams students to join us for a one day retreat, Living an Examined Life: Exploring the Purpose of My Education, to explore these questions and more. Hosted by Jen Lazar ‘04, Nandita Batheja ‘12, and the Gaudino Fund, this one-day retreat offers you the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and stretch into what is possible for your educational journey.

When: Saturday, February 11th, 2023, 10am-8pm

Where: Dewey House (immediately off-campus on 796 Main Street)

This retreat includes delicious catered meals from local restaurants; bottomless cups of coffee and tea; a day off-campus at the beautiful Dewey House on the corner of Southworth St. and Route 2 (transportation support as needed); and a powerful community of alumni and peers committed to deep reflection, inquiry, and exploration.

Please fill out the form below to apply. The first round of applications will close on Friday, December 17, 2022.

Please reach out with questions to Jen Lazar at jen.lazar@gmail.com or Nandita Batheja at nandita.batheja@gmail.com.

Why do you want to participate in this retreat? What would you like to take with you back to your everyday life from this experience? What are you bringing to this retreat that you would like to share with others? *
Please share a bit about your personal story of education.  No need to offer a formal essay on this or some kind of analysis, we are asking simply for a sense of how you see your own personal journey. (Please note that we are defining education broadly -- not just schooling, but your journey as a learner, the learning in your life that has been meaningful for you.) *
What questions are alive for you about your education at this moment? What are your current places of challenge, growth, stretch, and excitement? What are you craving?
*
How do you identify? (Gender identity, ethnic or racial background, sexual orientation, class, learning styles, and anything else that makes you who you are.) We ask because we value diversity, the opportunity to co-create safe(r)/brave(r) spaces together, and we want to know how to best meet our collective needs.
