Dyslexia Basics

In this professional development seminar, Everyone Reading Illinois board members provide a general overview of dyslexia, including information on such topics as underlying deficit areas for students with dyslexia, early screening, assessment, effective interventions, appropriate accommodations, and helpful resources. The presentation is followed by a Q&A session, and the entire seminar’s duration is typically 1 to 1.5 hours.

Dyslexia Simulation

Everyone Reading Illinois board members also host a dyslexia simulation, which is a hands-on experience designed to increase awareness regarding the difficulties and frustrations that people with dyslexia encounter daily. The simulation includes multiple stations with varying activities through which participants rotate with each station’s activities lasting 10-15 minutes. The simulation often begins with a brief “What is Dyslexia” presentation, and the simulation’s duration is typically 1.5 hours.
