Students & Parents,
Please read carefully
During summer breaks at LCHS classroom pets normally residing in the Small Animal Care classroom need homes. Mrs. Roberts simply does not have the space to care for all these animals in her own home and therefore enlists the help of students. This is a great opportunity for students to bond with one of the classroom pets and demonstrate their responsibility. (Students enrolled in Mrs. Roberts class may also have the experience qualify as SAE hours)
This opportunity does come with responsibilities that the student must work to fulfill. During breaks, the animal must be properly cared for including feeding, providing water, appropriate socialization, and maintaining proper cleanliness. Students who are chosen to take an animal home will be sent with all the equipment necessary to start for the animal, an animal care sheet, and a set of supplies needed (bedding, feed, hay). During the break, the supplies sent with the student will run out. In this case, the student will need to purchase some supplies and feed to ensure the animal is properly cared for. If equipment breaks or has an issue students should contact Mrs. Roberts. The student is also responsible for communicating any potential health issues, concerns or questions that they may have about the care of the animal.
I understand students have a preference in which animal they take but finding the proper home for all animals is the most important so it is not guaranteed you will get your first choice. Experienced students may qualify to take home multiple animals if desired.
