JC Green Business Program Application
Thank you for your interest in becoming a certified green business! This application is for businesses that are applying for the first time 𝐎𝐑 businesses with expired certifications that are seeking recertification.

Certification is easy! All applicants must reach a minimum of 15 points in order to qualify for the program. To see if you qualify use the Green Business Matrix to asses your sustainability practices: https://bit.ly/3iu7NG1. Then, fill out form and Office of Sustainability staff will contact you.

Certification is good for 3 years from the date of issue. All applications will be evaluated by the Jersey City Environmental Commission at its following monthly meeting. Please contact makeitgreen@jcnj.org for more information.

Energy Reduction: Install programmable/smart thermostats on HVAC equipment
Water Conservation: Plant a new street tree or manage stormwater on your property using green or gray infrastructure
Transportation: Offer bike racks or other bike parking for employees/customers
Purchasing: At least 20 % of your materials and supplies are from regional sources to reduce transportation (within 250 miles)
Purchasing: At least 20 % of food used for catering events are from certified organic and/or regional farms (within 250 miles)
Purchasing: At least 50% of the cleaning products you use or sell are from certified green sources such as Green Seal, EPA Safer Choice, ECOLOGO UL GreenGuard, and/or Chlorine Free Products Association

Waste Diversion: FOOD SERVICE BUSINESS ONLY: Compost food waste and/or recycle oil.
Waste Diversion: Offer reusable shopping bags and or discounts for those who use them

Energy Reduction: Reduce plug loads in common areas (break room, office equipment room) such as using smart power strips or turning off all unused

Water Conservation: Use low flow toilets and aerators for faucets and showerheads
