Female entrepreneurship Western Balkans (3Bs - Business Ladies, Bees & Buns) - SUMMARY
This time, we have selected a less intensive, yet more educational and skill-development-targeting event with focus on:
1. female entrepreneurship (particularly in rural areas),
2. honey manufacturing and importance of bees for our planet, and
3. promotion of Swedish culture through a competition in cinnamon bun making, and
4. biodiversity
GENDER EQUALITY: Although it is clear to us that women play a significant role in entrepreneurship (around 30% in Serbia), we believe that strengthening their role is an important part in improving the economic potential of the entire WB region.
Female entrepreneurs in Serbia, but also in the entire WB region, face various challenges. We would love to hear their stories and to share them with a wider audience.
LIFE ON LAND #ProtectBees / GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING: Honey bee has an extremely important and complex place in the nature, especially when it comes to various agricultural crops. By its activity in the nature, it significantly influences the production of human and animal food, various industrial, agricultural raw materials, as well as human health and aesthetic aspects of life. Not only is the honey produced by bees a part of human diet, but it has a multiple positive effects on our health and skin.
There are around 250.000 species of flowering plants on Earth, many of which are in very complex relationships with pollinating insects, primarily with honey- and wild bees. Namely, more than three quarters of the world crops rely partly or fully on the pollination by insects and other pollinators. More specifically, as much as 70% of world agriculture depends on the pollinators.
Furthermore, pollination, which the bees are responsible for, enables reproduction of the plants which are food for millions of animals. Without bees, indeed, the fauna would soon begin to disappear.
Bees have been declared the most important living creatures on the planet. However, the scientists has also announced a very worrying fact – namely, bees are already on the list of endangered species.
According to a quote which is attributed to Albert Einstein, ‘if the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live’.
And why, do you think, are the bees disappearing?
SWEDISH CULTURE: The promotion of Swedish culture is planned to be performed though an interactive workshop “Make your own cinnamon bun”. In the presence of an experienced demonstrator, the participants will have the opportunity to make their own cinnamon bun. After that, during a fika time, the best bun will be announced and a symbolic prize awarded to the winner. :)
BIODIVERSITY #EverySpeciesMatters: In order to preserve the nature and its protected areas, which present the national treasure of each country, it is necessary to effectively get people involved and engaged in educational processes promoting the importance of biodiversity. So, come and take part of unique educational tour through “Deliblato Sands” Special Natural Reserve – the largest continental desert in Europe – introduction to its importance and its biodiversity.
BRAINSTORMING, CREATIVE THINKING AND NETWORKING: In the end, in an open discussion between our participants and guest female entrepreneurs, we will be aiming to come up with an idea for a potential innovative food product that would be in line with all the principles of sustainable production and general well-being.
