HSQ HARP HIRE SCHEME – CARE OF HARP

- The Harp is never to be taken from your home. Pedal harps are only to be transported by a
representative of the HSQ Hire Scheme, and only at the beginning and end of the hire term.
- Special circumstances could be considered upon prior application (eg to attend an exam or
concert performance) but this would be an exceptional instance.
- The Harp is never to be left in a parked car.
- Never expose the Harp to weather (heat, rain, hail, snow, etc)
- The Harp is to be kept out of drafts and sunlight, and away from air conditioners, heaters, windows and damp conditions.
- When not in use the Harp is to be kept covered and stood with its back against a wall or chair and protected from animals and children to avoid accidental damage.
- Please note that the Harp should be kept well-tuned. Daily tuning keeps the harp easily maintained, reducing the risk of broken strings.
- Please notify the HSQ immediately if a string breaks. Broken strings are to be replaced as soon as possible to minimize overstress to the soundboard and to prevent more breakage of
strings. To maintain consistency of string quality, HSQ will provide a replacement string from
their supply at the expense of the Hirer (to be taken from the Bond at the end of the hire
term.)

Please notify HSQ immediately if any part of the Harp is damaged or requires repair. ON NO
ACCOUNT ATTEMPT ANY REPAIRS YOURSELF as this could result in greater expense to you in
the end.
Cleaning: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE HARP, APART FROM A LIGHT DUST WITH A DRY
SOFT CLOTH.

NB: The Harp Society of Queensland Inc. undertakes to hire our harps in a spirit of good
faith. We expect the Hirer to take all due care with these instruments. We reserve the
right to withdraw the Harp from hire without notice should we believe the harp is not
being correctly cared for.
