All coaches, all assistant coaches, all players, and all spectators shall support the referee before, during, and after the match. Failure to do so undermines the referee's authority and could create a hostile environment for players, the referee, coaches, assistant coaches, and all spectators, including participants in other matches. Consequently, MESL has adopted the following rule:

NO ONE IS TO ABUSE THE REFEREE DURING THE MATCH!!!!!

Coaches/Assistant Coaches - Allowable Communications:

DURING THE MATCH:
Responding to a referee initiating a communication
Making substitutions
Pointing out emergencies or safety issues

Giving polite and friendly feedback to a referee

ABSOLUTELY NO SARCASM, NO HARASSMENT, AND NO INTIMIDATION!!!!!

2nd Minor Infraction - Referee should issue a verbal warning
3rd Minor Infraction – Referee should issue an ejection (Red Card is not displayed)

Pointing out emergencies or safety issues

SPECTATOR PENALTIES:
1st Infraction - Referee should stop the match and ask the coach to quiet the offending spectator (s).

3rd Infraction - The referee shall instruct the coach to direct the spectator to leave the field. The referee should abandon the match if the spectator does not leave the field.
Communications among players and referees are governed by the FIFA Laws of the Match.

REFEREE SUPPORT
Everyone, especially coaches and assistant coaches, shall provide support to the referees at all times.
1. Coaches are responsible for assistant coaches', players', fans', and their own behavior.
2. Any coach who does not comply with a referee's request to deal with a fan shall be issued a misconduct infraction as deemed appropriate by the referee.
3. Anyone responsible for the verbal or physical assault of a referee prior to, during, or following a match will be subject to review by the Board of Directors.
4. Any team/town that refuses to provide the name and address of the responsible person(s) for the verbal or physical assault on a referee will be subject to review by the Board of Directors.

Finally:
It is and always will be the coach’s responsibility for the safety of his/her players. The coach always has the authority to stop play and remove his team from the match (either temporarily or permanently) if he/she feels conditions are unsafe. A parent (obviously) also has the authority to remove his/her child from an unsafe situation. If the situation warrants it, please do it, while also abiding by the zero-tolerance policy. A coach also has recourse regarding a referees’ performance via a formal complaint through the league.

I have read and understand the Zero Tolerance Policy *
Although your youngster is under the supervisory guidance of very fine coaches during soccer practices and games, the most important people in their life is still you, their parents. We’d like to pass on a few tips we’ve learned while teaching your children the finer points of soccer.

1. Just as you’ve earned your youngster’s respect through your personal discipline and sense of responsibility at home,
teach your youngster to respect the officials of the game, coaches, other parents and teammates.

2. Remember the coaches are volunteers. They give significant amounts of time so that your child can play. Please treat
        them with respect.

3. Provide transportation to and from all practices and games ensuring that the player is prompt not only in arriving but
        also in departing.

4. Whenever possible, come to the games with your youngster and encourage the team. It means a lot to a youngster
when Mom and Dad are “out there” watching.

5. We do not condone abusive language and gestures during a game. Remember, a child imitates, sometimes without
        thinking.

6. Applaud good effort by all players. Let the coaches point out the mistakes when the players have left the field. That’s
their job and, as you’ll agree, they do it very well.

7. Keep in mind that your youngster plays soccer for enjoyment and character building, not for your pleasure. Soccer
should be fun and not intended just to please Mom and Dad.

8. When attending games, do not coach the team from the spectators’ seats. If you want to coach, become a volunteer.

9. Never laugh at an intentional bad play. If you do, you disrupt the discipline that our coaches try to instill in the players.

10. Don’t forget that a soccer game is a form of recreation and not a life and death struggle. Keep a rein on your
emotions, regardless of who wins or loses.

11. Do not criticize a player while on the field. Do you like to hear disparaging remarks about your child while you sit in the
stands? Would you like it if your boss called you out in front of the whole office?

12. Your vote of confidence in the character and abilities of our coaches - even if you think you know more about running
the team than our volunteers do - is also a vote of confidence in your youngster.

13. Allow your youngster to be a youngster.

14. Above all, be a good parent. No one can take your place. We are all a part of the MESL team which is there to benefit
        our greatest resource, our children.
I have read and understand the Parents Code of Ethics *
Being part of a team sport means you are making a commitment to your fellow teammates and your coach to do your best. You are responsible to be on time for practices and games, and to be ready to play. No player is more valuable than another in team sports; it takes all players and all abilities making a full investment in the game.

Before the game:

1. You must bring water.

2. You need all required equipment in good working order; shin guards, uniform, cleats, socks. (mouth guard and athletic
        support if applicable)

3. If you are playing goalie, you need gloves and a goalie shirt (may be provided by coach).

4. You should arrive 10 minutes before your game or practice.

5. Do not talk when your coach is talking. There is a reason they are the coach; even if you think you know more about soccer than they do, they deserve your respect.

During the game:

6. Stay seated on your bench unless you are up for substitution.

7. When substituting, go to the midfield and wait for the referee to call you in.

8. Listen to what your coach is telling you and do your best to do as they ask you to do.

9. No violent contact with anyone.

10. There is no place for rude, crude, or abusive language or gestures on the sports field. Do not swear; do not make fun of other athletes; do not criticize referees or coaches.

11. Soccer is a TEAM sport - no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is to be treated with respect!

After the game:
1. Shake hands with ALL PLAYERS.

2. Shake hands with ALL COACHES.

3. Shake hands with ALL REFEREES.

4. Keep all negative comments to yourself - not even whispering them.

5. Drink lots of water.

6. Return to your coach for post-game meeting. Do not talk when your coach is talking. Do not leave until you are dismissed by your coach.

7. Take all trash and equipment with you when you leave the bench. Deposit trash in the proper receptacles as you leave the field.

Respect ALL REFEREES
Respect ALL COACHES
Respect ALL PLAYERS
