ULI staff and committee members will pair mentors with an applicant that best fits the information and description provided in this application. Mentors and applicants commit to meeting together at least one time per month at their convenience for the duration of the program and to attending the planned Mentorship Mixers. Kickoff will be with a Mentorship Mixer on January 17th, location TBD.
Mentors should help applicants explore their career aspirations, professional strengths and weaknesses,
and collaborate with them to develop a plan to reach their goals. Ideally, a mentor should be able to:
- Stay accessible, committed, and engaged during the length of the program
- Help mentee understand & define their goals
- Listen well & ask questions about the big picture
- Share expertise, knowledge, and connections when relevant (don’t be concerned if they do not follow your advice – this is ultimately about their career path)
- Offer encouragement through genuine positive reinforcement
- Be a positive role model
- Share “lessons learned” from experiences
- Be a resource and a sounding board
- Maintain confidentiality
