2023 Steel City Codes - Cornerstone ES Student Sign Up Form
Welcome to the Steel City Codes Cornerstone ES Student Sign-Up form! Please fill out this form if you intend for your student to take part in SCC classes at Cornerstone, which will happen with the CSE Coding Club.

Who: 3rd-5th graders willing to learn relevant programming skills that will help them with making real-time projects, as well as coding abilities that are high-school and college level.

What: Java/Python/Scratch classes taught by trained high school volunteers with established coding experience and quality communication skills. We have found that younger students learn more effectively from their older, more experienced peers, in a pleasant environment that is entertaining yet also effective. Getting a head start in elementary school will improve the student's success in high school computer science courses, boost their own college application in the future,  and improve their position in a competitive CS job industry.

When: 3:30PM-4:30PM, Mondays After School

Where: Cornerstone Elementary School

Session Duration: Starting September 25th - until the end of the year. The CSE Coding Club will start meeting on the 18th for club introductions, but SCC will start on the 25th.

Cost: Free!

About the Organization:
Steel City Codes aims to provide cost-free educational opportunities in computer science (CS) to all students of all backgrounds, with a focus on underprivileged and underrepresented students in the field.

Not all schools offer CS classes due to a lack of knowledge, funding, or resources in general. Because of this, students often lack exposure to CS and miss out on opportunities to learn or further pursue their interests in technology-based disciplines.

Steel City Codes was designed to fill this void and give students this exposure early on. Our main offerings include cost-free summer camps, after-school chapters, virtual workshops, and other opportunities that allow elementary and middle school students to gain proficiency in a variety of practical coding languages, such as Java and Python.
