ABOUT THE COURSE:
Josh and Peter (friends and homeschooled teens) are experienced in making short brick films also known as Lego stop motion. The process takes time, and learning and improving is ongoing, but it is loads of fun and a very rewarding hobby. Josh and Peter would like to share what they know with others and are offering a short course in term 2. The class will have a fun and relaxed atmosphere, but students will need to be respectful, listen carefully, and be able to follow instructions to get the most out of the classes.
This short 6 week course will include need-to-know basics, such as tools & equipment for beginners, techniques & terminology, plus some excellent tips & tricks. Students will gain a great foundation to build on which will enable them to create their own brick films.
Some things which will be covered during the 6 weeks are:
storyline – effectively telling your story (or idea) and the optional use of storyboards
design – turning ideas and storyboards into sets and characters
cinematography – lighting and movement
editing – using sound and special effects (intros etc)
production – combining your skills to produce a final project
Along the way, we will explore how we can use Lego facial expressions and different camera angles to enhance our stories, plus discuss and practise other tricks and ideas to improve our brick films.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Each week, we would like to challenge our students to go home and experiment with the ideas and techniques shared with them in class. We would like to encourage students to record a few seconds each week of their at-home experimenting to show in class the following week (sharing is optional). We will give feedback and tips and then move onto learning something new. Every week we will build on what we have learned.
