Femicide is the most extreme manifestation of gender inequality, gender-based discrimination and violence against women. It is a heinous crime, the roots of which derive from socially ingrained harmful attitudes, behaviors and stereotypes (ABS), which much be comprehensively addressed to eliminate gender-based violence and femicide. This side event will provide a forum for discussion on the crucial steps which must be taken, within the legislative, judiciary, law enforcement and policy-making sectors, in order to work towards the achievement of SDG 5.
