BEC Committee Interest Form
Butte Environmental Council invites members of the community to join our working committees. Each committee, described below, generally meets once or twice per month to plan events, fundraisers, and promote awareness as well as encourage membership participation. Please read the descriptions of BEC's working committees and express interest you have in joining as many as you would like. By expressing community interest, you will be added to our committee email list and can expect communication about the next committee meeting very soon. All Committee meetings are currently being held virtually. Thank you for your continued support!

Outreach Committee
The Outreach Committee spearheads BEC's Community Forums program and assists with other outreach and education efforts. Past Community Forums have addressed the intersection of housing, water, waste, and other topics with climate change. Our 2021 Forum series centers on transportation, shelter, wildfire, and food systems. Committee members collaboratively plan the topics, presenters, and meeting format for our Forums and assist with event facilitation.
Advocacy Committee
BEC closely monitors policies and plans within Butte County to ensure that environmental concerns are always addressed in policy discussions--or opens new discussions by bringing environmental concerns to light. The Advocacy Committee is an opportunity to "check in" with each other for BEC board, staff, allies, and activists working on various aspects of local/regional environmental advocacy; to bring other advocates up to speed on our progress, or work out strategy, or share networks. Advocacy Committee meetings are an opportunity to learn how YOU can be a voice for the environment! *All meetings may be attended by current BEC Members, Board Members and Staff.
Garden Committee
Do you love gardening? Are you passionate about growing healthy local food right in our own backyards and public spaces? The Garden Committee wants your help! This committee oversees the on-going maintenance and health of our Oak Way Community Garden program. The Garden Committee assists with outreach and public education on our garden and helps organize and plan events like Community Garden Workdays and Garden Party Fundraisers. The committee will also be working towards expanding BEC's community garden program.
Fundraising and Membership Committee
In the early planning phases, this committee will focus on fundraising efforts related to events, grant-seeking, and sponsorship. This committee will also focus on ways to build the BEC membership, where most of the financial support for the organization comes from. The fundraising and membership committee will also be responsible for organizing the annual Angel Social event, meant exclusively for BEC Angels.
Board of Directors
If you are a BEC member interested in more information about joining our Board of Directors, please indicate your interest in this form. Board of Director Elections are held each June and all BEC members are invited to participate in the elections.
