Temple Shalom provides two programs to help teach Jewish learning and living to your child. SHACHARIT is for students in grades K-5 and MINCHA is for students in grades 6-7. All students engage in four pillars of Jewish Learning and Engagement.

1. Jewish Learning: Students explore core Jewish concepts, teachings, and traditions using a Project Based Expeditionary Approach. This approach allows for choice, purposeful work, and relationship-building while students experience a deep dive into content, all while having fun!

2. Jewish Living: At Temple Shalom, we think of this as Jewish life skills. Through thematic learning related to Torah, Holidays and Jewish Values, students will play games, do art, cook, and enjoy time in “bunks” with our teens and staff as they make their way through the Jewish calendar.

3. Small Group Hebrew: Students in Grades 2-6 will explore the Hebrew alphabet, learn to decode Hebrew, lead prayers and become robust prayer participants in Shabbat services. Students engage in a multi-sensory approach to learning and begin preparing to become a B’Mitzvah.

4. Worship/Spirituality: Judaism offers us many paths to travel as we deepen our own spirituality.  Gathering together as a community to express gratitude and joy, as well as gain strength during challenging times, helps our students and their families feel connected to one another and explore their relationship to God.

Schedule: We offer flexible scheduling for our families. Students may take all parts of the Jewish learning on one day which we call bundling or they may choose to take Hebrew on another day. We also offer childcare on Sundays until 1:30 and Extended Day starting at 12:30 on Wednesdays.

Sundays 9:30-12:00 OR Wednesdays 2:30-5:00

Grades 2-5:
Sundays Bundling with Hebrew: 9:30-1:30
Sundays without Hebrew: 9:30-12:00

       Wednesdays Bundling with Hebrew: 1:30-5:00
      Wednesdays without Hebrew: 2:30-5:00

         Monday, Tuesday, Thursday options at 3:30 or 5:00


Grade 6-7 MINCHA:

         Sundays 9:30-12:00 OR Wednesdays 3:30-6:00


Small Group Hebrew for 6th Grade: *New for 2022-2023

We are excited to revise our 6th grade Hebrew program. Students will work individually or in a group of two or three students with a member of the Learning and Engagement Team for 30-45 minutes each week either in person or on zoom. This allows us to custom build the Hebrew curriculum to meet the specific needs of our students and to help provide a smooth transition into B’Mitzvah tutoring. These groups will be formed with much discussion with parents.

Options will include Sundays at 12:30 and Monday, Tuesday or Thursday afternoons/early evenings. Please fill out the form to your best ability and Liz Shiro will be in touch with recommendations for your child. We are not offering “bundling” for sixth graders.
