Room 180

Join the Levin Center, Criminal Justice Center, and Criminal Defense Clinic for a screening of "Justice USA, " and Q&A with Marshall Goldberg, JD '71, who spent the past seven years making this six-part documentary focused on the criminal justice system in Nashville, TN. We will screen the first 50-minute episode and then feature a Q&A with Marshall facilitated by Professor Ron Tyler.

Shot over seven months in Nashville, TN, with almost no restrictions, this six-part series for MAX bears witness to everyday life in the men’s jail, the women’s jail, the juvenile court, and the courthouse. There are no narrators and no experts. We simply let the cameras roll so we see and hear directly from the people who make up the system – inmates, lawyers, deputies, administrators – in their own voices. Because of a written agreement we made with the District Attorney, nothing we filmed or saw was ever sought as evidence. As a result, arrestees could speak to us freely without fear of additional legal jeopardy.
