NLRP#13 Navigating Academia in India
What is the purpose of this study?
This study aims to understand the experiences of ad hoc academics working in precarious contracts in India.
A precarious contract means work that is
  • lacking job security
  • not salaried, paid in wages
  • employment is time bound or gig-based (not permanent)
The study involves 2 levels of participation

  • Survey + Interview (completely confidential) - [will be scheduled keeping in mind participants availability]
The interview will consist of a second round of informed consent process, allowing interviewees various means by which to protect their identity. The interview does not elicit information about names of institutions and will not name research participants in any form of writing (e.g. transcriptions or research manuscripts).

Please participate if:

  • you are an academician, i.e. researchers or professor, who is employed under precarious contract in institutes of higher education
  • your employment status qualifies being described as ad hoc/temporary/non-tenured/non-permanent faculty/researcher
  • you could be working in multiple institutes/organizations, either engaging in only teaching responsibilities, only research activities or both teaching and research activities.
  • you have a minimum of 2 years work experience in such roles.
  • you are employed in Humanities and Social Sciences (e.g. Departments of Psychology, Philosophy, Economics, etc.)
