Participant Information Sheet

My name is Paula Zhao and I am a student at the University of Bolton completing my final year project.  This study aims to investigate reasons for choosing to study psychology, meaning in life (MIL) and levels of psychological distress among university psychology students.  My project is being supervised by Professor Jerome Carson.

Your participation should take approximately 10-15 minutes:  You are asked to provide minimal demographic information such as age, gender and country plus three short questions on page 1.  Then three further short questionnaires consisting of 12 questions for ‘Why choose psychology’, 10 for MIL and 10 for the CORE-10 which all use Likert scale answers.

This study has been approved by the psychology departments ethical committee, which adheres to the British Psychological Society’s ethical guidelines

Participation in the study is voluntary.  You are free to start the study and then stop it if you don’t want to complete it. It is not my intention that the study should cause you any distress, as it is about reasons for choosing to study Psychology, but if it does, a list of helplines has been provided. However, once you have completed the questionnaire and pressed submit you will no longer be able to withdraw from the study

Your responses to this survey are anonymous and all data collected will be treated confidentially and in line with the General Data Protection Regulation in the UK. Your consent to participate in this survey is inferred by completing the questionnaire.
