River Talk: Birding 101
Join the Musconetcong Watershed Association for our April River Talk, which will take place in person at our River Resource Center, located at 10 Maple Ave., Asbury, NJ 08802. It will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Are you interested in birding, but aren’t quite sure where to begin? Or are you simply looking to brush up on your existing knowledge? This month’s River Talk is for anyone from beginners to more experienced birders. Whether you’re new to the area, or have lived here your whole life, even avid nature-lovers might not be aware of the array of incredible wildlife they can find in their own backyard! In this discussion, we’ll go over how to get started, proper use of binoculars, how to use a field guide, and what birds to look out for in the area. Brian will even share with us some of his favorite places to spot birds!

About the speaker:
Brian Butler, a native son of Hampton, has been an avid birder since childhood. He is a retired teacher (Memorial School, Washington, Warren Co.), where he taught hundreds of children how to use binoculars and other birding skills for over 20 years. Brian has also volunteered for several years at the MWA's Camp Musky. In the autumn when the winds are out of the northwest, you can be sure to find Brian assisting the lead Hawkcounter at Raccoon Ridge (above Blairstown) on the Appalachian Trail.

Parking for this River Talk is available at our River Resource Center, located at 10 Maple Ave., Asbury, NJ 08802, as well as across the street at our historic Asbury Mill, located at 476 Old Main St., Asbury, NJ 08802.
