About the Award: This award recognizes two outstanding National History Day (NHD) educators, one in the junior division and one in the senior division. The two educators nominated from Ohio will each receive a $500 stipend and the national winners (selected from the pool of affiliate nominated educators) will each receive $10,000. Nominations can come from anyone, so nominate your favorite Ohio History Day educator today!
Eligibility Requirements: Eligible nominees must be full-time educators (teachers, media specialists, librarians, homeschool educators, etc.), have students participating in the Ohio History Day contest (at any level) and work in public, private, parochial, cyber, or homeschool environment. In addition, they must demonstrate the following criteria:
Dedication to the National History Day program:
- Inclusion of Project-Based Learning through the National History Day Contest in the classroom;
- Commitment to working with students on NHD projects over multiple years in an academic or extracurricular setting;
- Assisting students to showcase work at regional, affiliate, or national level(s). Students do not need to advance to the National or State Finals in order for the educator to be eligible.
Promoting inspired and creative teaching methods regarding the instruction of history:
- Use of primary sources in the classroom;
- Implementation of active learning strategies to engage students and promote historical thinking skills.
