Academics for Social Media Transparency and Data Access
We live in a world where social media and technology companies possess the richest and most dynamic wealth of personal data in the world. However, we — academic researchers, technologists, and legal scholars — cannot fully study how these platforms impact our democracy due to Big Tech companies’ reluctance to let third parties scrutinize how their policies, processes, algorithmic systems, and more impact our society.

Sign our letter, and join others in the academic community, calling on elected officials to stand up to Big Tech and swiftly advance federal legislation establishing the conditions for access to social media data for independent researchers.
