this fall: The HAMILTON CUBAN SALSA PROJECT (HCSP)!!!
*What is it?
HCSP is a unique blend of CUBAN SALSA / RUEDA DE CASINO classes + social
practices taught by master teacher VLADIMIR ARANDA and featuring music by
Hamilton’s own DJ JO NOVA!
*When is it?
Mark your calendars for every 1st + 2nd THURSDAY of each
month from OCTOBER – DECEMBER 8:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. ~ Oct. 5 & 12 ~ Nov. 2 & 9 ~ Dec. 7
& 14 ~
8:30 p.m. – Beginner class
9:15 p.m. – Beginner rueda practice + all levels mini-social
9:45 p.m. – Intermediate class + rueda practice
We kindly ask that dancers please arrive 15 minutes before class. Intermediates
can also attend the beginner class + practice if they wish.
*Where is it?
Our new location at Westdale United Church, 99 North Oval, Hamilton. (Located
on bus routes 5C & 5A and near McMaster University. There is some on-site
parking and street parking is free on side streets.)
*How to register?
Take advantage of our EARLY BIRD / STUDENT SPECIAL by signing up for all six
evenings for $120. Hurry! :) This special will be available until
September 30th only. On October 1st the rate will go up
to $135. If you prefer to attend on select nights only, the drop-in rate is $25
cash only. ATMs are available very close by in the Westdale neighbourhood.

*Class Descriptions
BEGINNER – Learn or refresh the fundamentals of salsa rueda de casino in this
welcoming and fun class + practice! This class will cover the basic casino
steps as well as several rueda de casino "calls" performed in a
circle. Examples of calls taught at this level are: Dile que no, Enchufla,
Enchufla doble, Guapea, Camina, Un fly, Dame, and Dame dos. Most dancers need to
take approximately 3-4 beginner classes before they are ready to stay for the
intermediate level.
INTERMEDIATE – We will continue to "up" our rueda de casino game
as we learn more complex fundamentals and build on the foundations. To join
this level, dancers must know and demonstrate the beginner level casino calls
very well (i.e. they must have intermediate skills in casino, not salsa). An
assessment by Vladimir is required. Those not possessing the basic rueda de
casino fundamentals will be recommended to continue at the beginner level until
they are ready to move up. If you’re not sure of your casino level, we highly
recommend attending the beginner class first before attempting to join the
intermediate. Note: All intermediates are welcome and encouraged to join the
beginner class and/or practice as a warm-up :)
ABOUT CASINO RUEDA ~ Casino is a popular dance which was developed in the
mid-50s in Cuba. It is a beautiful, smooth and elegant style of dancing that is
full of musicality skills and flair. In addition, the basic casino steps will
allow you to dance not only in pairs, but also in a "rueda” (wheel/circle)
which is always an exciting and joyful experience!
ABOUT INSTRUCTOR VLADIMIR ARANDA ~ Vladimir has 20 years of experience in
Latin entertainment and has instructed dance at multiple renowned dance
platforms in Toronto including Lula Lounge. Awarded Toronto’s Best Dance
Instructor by Now Magazine twice, he has instructed dance on TLN network. He
has taught Canada’s biggest ruedas at Salsa On The Waterfront. Vlad has also
made dance appearances in film and TV including Take The Lead, and La Femme
Nikita and worked with stars such as: Bette Midler, Antonio Banderas, James
Franco, Meg Ryan, Omar Epps, and more.
