Application Process

  • Applicants must be unconditionally accepted into Lipscomb University and the EXNS program prior to being granted an interview for the graduate assistant (GA) position.
  • Complete the questions below.
  • Finalists will be contacted for a final interview after the deadlines below.
  • Application deadlines:
         - applications for Fall '24 are closed.
         - applications for Fall '25 must be submitted by Friday, November 8, 2024.
         - applications for Fall '26 will open in Spring '25.


Major Responsibilities
  • Teach PE2012: Lifetime Wellness (based on qualifications)
  • Assist faculty with PE2012: Lifetime Wellness fitness testing
  • Teach fitness courses and assist faculty in the physical activities courses offered in the department (based on qualifications)
  • Monitor the EXHP/Department of Kinesiology laboratories and assist faculty and department students with projects, equipment, and other laboratory activities
  • Assist the Laboratory Directors and other faculty with ongoing research projects
  • Work cooperatively with other GAs
  • Collaborate with GAs and faculty
  • Attend department, college, and other meetings
  • 20 hours per week in teaching activities and laboratory supervision
  • Report to the EXHP Laboratory Directors, Director of Graduate Studies in EXHP, & Chair of Department of Kinesiology
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Exercise Science or related field
  • Working knowledge of and experience in kinesiology-based laboratories (human performance/strength, cardiovascular, body composition, etc.), including metabolic testing, body composition (Bod Pod, InBody, DEXA), electrocardiography (EKG), electromyography (EMG), etc.
  • Familiarity with generalized fitness tests (flexibility, muscular tests, cardiovascular field tests, etc)
  • Ability to engage undergraduate students in the learning process through lectures, activities and educational demonstrations
  • Experience using Canvas or similar learning management system
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Current CPR certification
  • Professional certification desirable (e.g., ACSM, NSCA, ACE)
  • Able to meet deadlines; self-motivated, enthusiastic, punctual and dependable
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Willing to work as a team and maintain a flexible work schedule


Terms of Employment and Service
  • This agreement is for two academic years (Fall-Summer-Spring, Fall-Summer-Spring; summer enrollment is optional).
  • Reappointment of GA position after the first year may be terminated based on program fit, attitude, academic performance, and job performance.
  • The position provides  36 hours of tuition in the EXHP Program, valued at approximately $40,000 (courses taken outside the EXHP program may not be covered due to differences in tuition).
  • GA must be available for work one week prior to the beginning of the Fall semester
  • GA must maintain a 3.0 GPA and must enroll in the Thesis capstone.
