April 2024's Sisters@Eight - For the Sake of our Mamas. For the Sake of our Communities!

Black Maternal Health Week Theme: Our Bodies STILL Belong to Us. Reproductive Justice NOW!
Program Title: For the Sake of our Mamas. For the Sake of our Communities!

Policy and advocacy that shapes our current and future reproductive life. Calling all mamas ( current, soon to be, and plans to be) and those who love, care and support them! Join Black Women for Wellness for a special Black Maternal Health Week edition of Sisters @ 8. The maternal health crisis persists in the U.S. with Black mamas and birthing people bearing the disproportionate burden of negative outcomes. With more than 80% of pregnancy related deaths in the U.S.found to be preventable, we will delve into the current policies and advocacy tools working to address and eliminate the crisis that perpetuates a devastating reality for our community. We will also discuss the implementation of policies that have been signed into law to advance Black birth equity and the advocacy needed to ensure safe pregnancy and birthing for Black mamas and birthing people. A systems level response is necessary to address the inequities that drive negative outcomes for Black mamas, join us for an important conversation on what some of those responses are and learn how you can join the effort!
