The economy plays a central role in society, it shapes our health and wellbeing and the sustainability of the planet. And yet, despite this, the vast majority of people feel alienated from the subject, and unable to influence the economy around them.

Our news and entertainment platform (ecnmy.org) is modelling a new way to report on economic news. We work with community contributors from across the UK to co-produce fresh stories about the economy and our experiences of it - shaking up who has a public voice on the economy.

As we grow our platform we are looking to commission and work with freelance journalists and video producers who have one or more of the following experiences, skills and interests:
1. Experience communicating technical subjects in an engaging and accessible way to non-specialist audiences
2. Experience investigating and writing about the impact of policies on individuals and community
3. An interest in challenging exploitative and extractive practices when finding and working with sources for stories
4. Experience of co-producing content and stories with marginalised communities
5. High quality, supportive and accessible writing / content production style

Specific experience or education in economics is not required. We cover a wide range of issues and how they relate to the economy and our everyday lives, including housing, food, healthcare, money, jobs, education, art and culture, sports, entertainment, the environment and more.

Economics is underpinned by a way of thinking dominated by white men who have studied and worked in a small number of institutions. We are looking for people that bring a different perspective. We are particularly interested in hearing from people from communities underrepresented in economics & journalism, including women and non-binary people, people of colour, disabled people, people from working class backgrounds and people based outside of London.

- Working with our existing community co-producers to tell their stories
- Recruiting and working with community co-producers to tell stories on specific issues
- Writing new articles on recent economic stories written in a way that breaks down the key issues and connects them to people’s everyday lives
