Thank you for your interest in testing for radon!

The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) mails out short-term and long-term home radon testing kits during National Radon Action Month (January).

As of March 1, 2024, DGGS will be maintaining a list of all requests for radon testing kits to mail out starting next winter. If you have submitted an online request for radon tests prior to March 1, DGGS will be mailing tests to your testing address. Direct questions regarding testing kit delivery to program manager, Paul Goodfellow, at the email address listed below.

Please fill out the following questionnaire to complete your request for a home radon testing kit. These requests will be fulfilled once DGGS resumes new testing kit delivery in December 2024.

If your request includes multiple properties, please fill out the questionnaire separately for each property.

Please contact Paul Goodfellow (paul.goodfellow@alaska.gov or 907-269-6401).
What is your name? (Last, First) *
Please enter your phone number if you'd like us to call you if your test results are high (i.e., above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L). We can contact you to discuss options for further testing and/or mitigation steps. Otherwise we will communicate via email. (XXX-XXX-XXXX)
What is your email address? *
What is the physical address of the location you'd like to test?

The test kits will be mailed USPS. What is your mailing address?

Has the property ever been treated for radon? (i.e. Is a radon mitigation system in place or have steps ever been taken to reduce radon levels?) *
What's the primary reason you are interested in testing for radon? *
What type of foundation does the building have? (If there are multiple types, choose the one that predominates.) *
What type of building would you like to test? *
What type of residence is this? (If not a residence, please skip to the next question.) *
On which floor level will you conduct the test? Note, tests should be conducted on the lowest livable level where you spend a fair amount of time. You should test the air that you are regularly breathing, rather than the air in a crawlspace or below-ground utility room. *
In what room will you conduct the test? Please pick a room on the lowest living level (from the previous question) where you spend a fair amount of time. Bedrooms and living rooms are usually good options. A higher moisture content in rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms may affect the test result and these rooms are not preferred. Please do not place the test in a smaller, usually sealed room such as a closet. In what room will you conduct the test? *
Have you previously tested this property for radon? *
How would you like to receive your radon test kit in January and February? If you live in the Fairbanks or Anchorage areas, there is an option to pick up your kit in person. Regardless of where you live, you may also receive your kit by mail at the mailing address you provided.

By default, we will send you a short-term test that may run between 3 and 7 days. We also have long-term tests available that may run between 3 and 12 months. Both types of tests have the same accuracy level. Check the box below indicating if you'd prefer a long-term test.  (Note, if you're located off the main road system, we'll send you a long-term test, as they're not sensitive to shipping delays).

Although kits come with prepaid postage envelopes for mailing completed tests to laboratories outside of Alaska, shipping times have been problematic in the past. We highly recommend using an expedited shipping service (e.g. USPS Priority Mail) to ensure that tests arrive at the laboratories within the allowable time (8 days after completing tests).
Alaskans and researchers need your help.
Please allow us to use your test results to improve our map of radon prevalence in Alaska (https://maps.dggs.alaska.gov/radon/). We do not give out personal information or the exact locations of buildings.

I release my radon test result and environmental data to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys with the understanding that my results and data will be statistically merged with other radon data before it is made available to the public, and that my address and test result will be kept confidential except in the event a court of law orders that they be produced. *
