Thank you everyone for taking part in our “PLEASE DON’T FEED THE BINS” trial during weeks 3 – 5 of the last term.
The amount of packaging that ends up in our rubbish bins at the end of the day is quite shocking. By sending everything home in your child’s lunchbox we hoped this would give you the opportunity to see how much your children are eating, how much is being wasted as well as the amount of packaging food is being sent in.
We learned a couple of things which we’d like to share with you. We would appreciate you making these two small changes which would lead to less waste and make our job at lunchtime easier.
1. When sending your child to school with fruit please cut the fruit up. We see too many apples thrown away with one bite taken. If the fruit is chopped up your child can have some at morning tea time and the remainder remains fresh to finish at lunchtime.
2. If you are sending your child to school with something like yogurt please also send along a spoon. We are too often left with a mess or waste after a child has attempted to pour the contents into their mouths!
We would also appreciate your feedback on the trial as well as some other nutrition-related things.
We really appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback.
