In 2021, the National Domestic Workers Alliance advocated to increases the wages of direct care workers in North Carolina and won funding in the State approved budget for 2022. The money was dedicated to direct care workers to: (1) give bonuses to those who worked during COVID-19 and (2) raises of their hourly rates and ensure they all earn at least $15/hr. NDWA is concerned that direct care workers are not receiving the money they are entitled to and conducting this survey to see if the law that was passed is being followed. We hope your answers will help us continue to fight to improve working conditions for direct care workers.

We define direct care workers as a person who provides direct hands on assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, eating, personal hygiene, mobility, and toileting to support aging adults and individuals with disabilities in a home or community settings. Direct care worker covers home health aides, nursing assistants, personal care attendants/assistants, caregivers, or direct support workers/professional. Do you identify as a direct care worker?
