Our education team brings the actual artwork into your classroom and leads the program!

What If I'm Not an Art Teacher?
The Portable Gallery isn’t intended to only visit art classrooms, either. It’s designed to cross perceived boundaries and bridge the divide between art and broader academic pursuits.

Do you teach science? The Portable Gallery can be used to talk about how oil paint is the result of a unique set of chemical reactions, or as a means of discussing the fossil record – we have a work in the collection depicting fragments of dinosaur bone.

How about social studies or language arts? The Portable Gallery includes a work that delves into Chinese cultural traditions and another that explores the evolution of the English language.

This is a just a small glimpse into the possible curricular connections that can be made with the Portable Gallery.

A Few Important Details:
The Portable Gallery is available to all K-12 schools and colleges in the following counties:
Forsyth, Davidson, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin.

You can currently select up to three (3) works from the Portable Gallery per visit.

The Portable Gallery must be included in multiple class periods during each visit. Our education team is small, and it's not feasible at this point to make the trip for a single class period.

We can stay setup in the same room all day as different classes cycle through or we can move classrooms between periods.

If you have an A/B block schedule we will provide multiple visits in the same week whenever possible.

Let’s Get Started!
Start by reviewing the Portable Gallery catalog.

The catalog provides a complete list of the available works and background information on each artist. As the program grows, the catalog will be expanded to include sample activities and suggestions for curricular connections.

Once you’ve made your selection, please complete the submission form below – you’ll be contact by a member of SECCA’s education team to confirm the details of the visit.

If you have any questions or if you'd like to schedule a visit directly, please contact Alex Brown, SECCA’s Director of Programs and Audience Engagement, at 336-602-7942 or alexander.brown@ncdcr.gov.
