Teen Leadership Committee Application

This committee is open to rising 9th-grade - 12th-grade public, private, and homeschool students.

Welcome to the Strong Like AK Teen Leadership Committee! We are thrilled to have a dynamic group of young leaders who will work collaboratively with our Board of Directors. At Strong Like AK, we believe in the power of our community's youth, valuing their ideas, concerns, and unique perspectives. Together, we aim to create a substantial impact, not only locally but also globally.

Teens will have a unique opportunity to experience the functions and demands of being a board member while developing essential leadership skills. As part of the committee, they will engage donors, participate in organizing fundraisers, and raise community awareness about pediatric cancer. Additionally, they will represent other youth and teens throughout the community while nurturing a heart of service.

The Teen Leadership Committee provides an excellent opportunity to serve beyond school hours and gain valuable volunteer experience for college applications. We hope that our committee members will carry these skills with them into the future as they continue to support our community and children fighting pediatric cancer.

Leadership is at the core of our committee's mission, and to foster it, we have planned the following initiatives:

  1. Committee Chair Roles: Teens will take on leadership roles as chairs of various committees, such as fundraising, events, or communications.

  2. Team-Building Activities: We will conduct team-building exercises and retreats to foster collaboration and strengthen leadership capabilities.

  3. Project Ownership: Teens will be encouraged to take ownership of specific projects or initiatives and lead them from conception to completion.

Fundraising is essential to our cause, and our teen leaders will play a pivotal role in these efforts:

  1. Peer-to-Peer Fundraising: Teens will create personalized fundraising campaigns and leverage their social networks for support.

  2. Creative Fundraisers: Our teen leaders will take charge of organizing unique events like talent shows, art auctions, or sports tournaments.

  3. Crowdfunding Campaigns: Empowering teens to create and manage online crowdfunding campaigns for specific projects or programs.

  4. Community Partnerships: Collaboration with local businesses and organizations, enabling teens to spearhead fundraising partnerships and sponsorships.

  5. Volunteer Incentives: We will reward and recognize teens who go above and beyond in their fundraising efforts.

Marketing initiatives will be driven by our teen leaders:

  1. Social Media Ambassadors: Teens will become social media ambassadors, creating engaging content, managing accounts, and promoting our mission.

  2. Storytelling Campaigns: Our teens will collect and share inspiring stories of pediatric cancer survivors and their families to raise awareness.

  3. Video Production: Teens will create impactful videos showcasing Strong Like AK's work, events, and success stories.

  4. Design and Merchandise: Engaging teens in designing logos, merchandise, and promotional materials to enhance our nonprofit's brand identity.

As a part of the committee, teens will gain insight into nonprofit management through the following initiatives:

  1. Board Observer Program: Teens will have the opportunity to shadow board members, attend meetings, and learn about governance.

  2. Volunteer Coordination: Teens will manage volunteer programs, including recruitment, training, and scheduling.

  3. Event Planning: Teens will be actively involved in planning and executing fundraising events, developing skills in logistics, budgeting, and stakeholder management.

We are excited about the potential impact our Teen Leadership Committee will make on our organization and the pediatric cancer community. Let's work together to create positive change and support children fighting this challenging battle. Together, we are Strong Like AK!
