http://mhponline.org/images/stories/docs/policy/state/2021/SOICollateral.pdfMinnesota families with valuable housing assistance resources should have access to housing on the same basis as those without public housing assistance. Please support efforts to amend the Human Rights Act to clarify that housing discrimination based on a person’s source of income is illegal.
Source of income protections will increase use of rental assistance; decreases discrimination against individuals and families using housing assistance; and increase access to housing and freedom of housing choice.
Eligible families and individuals can wait years to get on housing assistance waiting lists, then years more to receive rental assistance for which they qualified long ago. When these households are discriminated against because of their rental assistance, they are denied the promise and opportunity to find safe, stable and affordable homes.
