21 NJ communities suffer from wastewater overflows into waterbodies and/or related dirty flooding into streets and basements. 

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has been working with these 21 towns to develop plans to help solve this problem. They are rolling  out the draft plans one by one with the first proposed projects released for Guttenberg and North Bergen, in Hudson County.

Now is our chance to weigh in before plans are finalized and ensure the projects provide maximum community benefits locally and across the state as more plans are rolled out. 

At the workshop, you'll learn more about the issue and how to provide effective input to NJDEP at their January 23rd  virtual public comment hearings (at 10am and 6pm), and how to write effective comments before  their February 13th deadline.

Sewage-Free Streets and Rivers campaign collaborates with residents, community organizations and small business owners to advocate for and help shape the solutions that were adopted in their Long Term Control Plans and that will be included in their first five-year permits to reduce localized flooding and the raw sewage dumped into our waterways.

The goal of the Jersey Water Works Combined Sewer Overflow Committee is to have municipalities and utilities adopt innovative CSO Long Term Control Plans with cost-effective solutions that meet or exceed permit requirements and provide multiple community benefits.
