RSVP- Campus Climate Connections-   May 3, 2023 Sebastopol, CA

Climate education continues to evolve.  Most schools are still trying to figure out how best to include Climate Change and Climate Action as part of the regular curriculum. Some continue to ignore it completely.  At this session, we’ll hear from local educators and students about actual Climate projects and activities emerging on local campuses.  We’ll also discuss ways to create space for students to study and develop projects on this important topic and how to connect with local groups working on Climate.

Climate Related Projects: Noa Schwartz, a junior at Analy High School and founder of non-profit organization Teach Climate and Redefine It (TCRI), will share about TCRI efforts to teach climate to younger students at area schools and other initiatives they have organized.  Noa and friends will also share about a variety of climate connected activities that AHS school clubs and classes are engaged in this school year.

Idle Free School project: Dan Karbousky, an instructor at Sonoma Academy, will share about the project initiated last year. Dan will share how they collected and analyzed data, crafted a policy and educational plan, and observations on implementation.  Resources for replicating this project will also be available.

Climate Literacy Resolutions: Nancy Metzger-Carter, Advisor for Schools For Climate Action and an instructor at Sonoma Academy, will share about recent progress in creating Climate Literacy Resolutions for school adoption resulting in comprehensive school-wide climate education curriculum.  Creating space within existing courses to study, explore and work on climate solutions is seen as a key piece toward empowering students with the skills needed to thrive in a changing world.
