Dana Juett Residency (DJR) Application - Class of 2022
Created with lifelong philanthropist Dana Juett, the Social Venture Partners Dallas Dana Juett Residency Program (DJR) is designed to empower and equip you, as a young business professional, to become a successful, life-long philanthropist… to do good better, earlier.

If accepted to the program, you and the other residents will meet (in-person) on the second Saturday of each month to build leadership and community-building skills, deepen relationships with your peers, and hear from some of Dallas’ most influential philanthropic leaders. Typically, the monthly workshops occur at different locations around the city, based on the month’s theme. SVP Dallas will host the sessions in-person unless otherwise specified following the recommendations for COVID-19 (and other variants) by our city, county, state officials, and the Center for Disease Control. The program will continue virtually if it is advised.

The program culminates with a skills-based social impact organization team project. Last year, one team built a marketing strategy, while another created a strategic growth plan. The projects will be developed in the spring (February to May) and will require a more significant time commitment (average 4 hours per week).

You and your fellow residents will also have the opportunity to interact with the broader SVP Dallas community by attending several SVP-sponsored events, including bigBANG!, Social Innovation Luncheon Series, SVPD Workshops, Responds Series, and the annual Philanthroparty gala.

ELIGIBILITY
All Dallas-area business professionals who, as of September 1, 2021, will not have reached their 30th birthday are eligible to apply. We look for candidates who have a strong desire to apply their professional skills to help grow the capacity of social impact organizations in the DFW area. Women, African American/Black, LatinX, LGBTQA+, and other underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

DURATION/TIME COMMITMENT:
The Residency program will consist of eight 4-hour sessions over eight months after the weekend retreat on September 10th, 2021. We anticipate successful participation to require 8-10 hours of your time per month.

MEETING ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION
We require that you attend the mandatory in-person retreat on September 10-11, 2021. Typically, this retreat is overnight. You must attend at least 8 of the 9 monthly meetings. Meetings are the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm (when meeting in-person, the session includes brunch). In addition to your attendance, we ask for your presence: your attention, commitment, and openness.

SUBJECTS COVERED
Through the DJR program, you will work with leaders of civic, cultural, and government organizations, covering topics such as:
- Charity versus Justice & the Role of Nonprofits
- Philanthropy through Business
- Philanthropy through Government
- Philanthropy and Equity
- Collective Impact & Project Kick-off
- Collaboration and Relationships for Social Impact
- Innovations in Philanthropy
- Philanthropy and the People

ASSIGNMENTS/CAPSTONE PROJECT
We ask that you complete all assigned tasks, which will include readings, written reflections, informational interviews, and group activities. Some tasks will be assigned in advance of a session, others as a follow-up activity.

From February through May, you will begin working on a team consulting project with an organization. There is a significant uptick in the time requirement.

INTERNATIONAL PHILANTHROPY TRIP (OPTIONAL)
In Summer 2022, we intend to continue learning through a week-long international trip. This is not a mandatory trip but will be a great opportunity to explore international philanthropy. The trip will be partially subsidized, and we will have more details once the program begins.

FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
An important component of philanthropy is a financial contribution. We ask you to commit to a meaningful monthly contribution – which is individually determined by each resident.
