SNMA Health Policy and Legislative Affairs Mentors
Greetings! The Health Policy & Legislative Affairs (HPLA) committee of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is looking for motivated mentors to provide mentorship to medical student participants of our fellowship program! If you are active in health policy, advocacy, activism, and/or organizing, WE NEED YOU! Please contact healthpolicy@snma.org or hplafellowship@snma.org if you have any questions or concerns.

About the Fellowship Program:
The SNMA HPLA Fellowship Program is designed to provide select individuals, particularly those with an interest in Health Policy and Advocacy, exposure to health policy from the perspective of a non-profit organization as well as the experience of organizing an advocacy project. This program offers the opportunity to gain a more thorough understanding of a medical career in health policy and an introduction to current health policy, grassroot efforts, and critical health policy issues. It is the aim of this program to develop leaders in the SNMA that will influence the future of healthcare through advocacy and activism efforts that will systematically address the inequities faced by underserved communities.

About the Mentorship:
We are aiming to build a repository of physicians that would be willing to serve as a project mentor to an HPLA fellow. Your contact information and areas of interests will be on a list that will be provided to the fellows and the fellows will be able to reach out to you if your interests align with that of the project the fellow is planning to pursue. The expected length for a mentorship match is from November to April (the length of the fellowship year) and you will provide project mentorship for only 1 fellow at a time. However, since we are aiming to keep a running list of available mentors, the hope is that your name will remain on the list each year for new fellows to get matched with.
