ACADEMIC GRADE
Assignments and projects account for the majority of the course grade. The amount of points possible for each assignment may vary according to the difficulty of the concept, and the amount of time needed to complete the project. Students are graded on their ability to demonstrate their level of understanding of a concept, creativity and originality, technique and skill with various mediums and tools, the overall craftsmanship and neatness of their work, how they used and managed their time throughout the project, and project-specific (quantitative) requirements. Scores are uploaded to the Weber School District portal through Canvas on a weekly basis.

Assignments will be completed using traditional, hands-on art methods (paper/pencil/pen/paint etc.). Instructional content, demonstration videos, slideshows/presentations, grading rubrics, and project deadlines are available online in the Modules section in Canvas. Assignments will be turned in directly to the instructor--not through online submission. This is NOT an online course.

Extra credit activities are available for students who want or need it. However, all assigned coursework should be completed before extra credit can be earned. Extra credit scores are entered into the gradebook during the last week of each term.

GRADING SCALE
A (100%-93%)  A- (92%-90%)  B+ (89%-87%)  B (86%-83%)  B- (82%-80%)  C+ (79%-77%)
C (76%-73%) C- (72%-70%)  D+ (69%-67%)  D (66%-63%)  D- (62%-60%)  F (59% and below)

LATE WORK
Students may turn in late work at any time during the first nine weeks of the term. Late work will not be accepted during the last week of a term. Late assignments are only eligible for credit during the term in which they were assigned.

MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES
The $25.00 class fee covers the cost of all consumable materials students will use throughout the class. This fee is required for ALL students who have NOT been approved for a fee waiver.

Students will receive a supply kit at the beginning of the semester that will contain all of the materials needed to complete the coursework. The supply kit becomes the property and responsibility of the student, and should be brought to class every day. Items that are lost or stolen once a student has received their kit will require an additional replacement cost.

OPTIONAL SUPPLIES
Students are welcome to supplement their art kits with additional materials and supplies from home. A few suggestions include a pencil pouch (to keep their supplies together), a hand-held pencil sharpener, an eraser, and colored pens or markers.

CITIZENSHIP
Behaviors that contribute to a drop in citizenship include: being excessively tardy (as per the tardy policy in the Student Handbook), repeatedly coming to class unprepared (no assignment or supplies), refusal to follow directions from the teacher, insubordination, repeated use of electronic devices during class time, classroom removal, truancy, cheating, vandalism of property, and misbehavior in the presence of a substitute teacher. Once a citizenship grade has been earned, it is irreversible for the duration of the term.

CLASSROOM RULES
--Be polite and show respect for everyone in the room.
--Be on time, prepared with your materials, and working during class time.
--Clean up any messes that you are responsible for making.
--Keep food in your backpack at all times. Beverage containers must have a lid that closes tightly.
--Follow all school-wide standards and rules.

HALL PASS
Students may only use the hall pass if they arrived to class on time. Students are given six (6) five-minute hall passes per term to use at their discretion. Once a student has exhausted all of their hall pass opportunities, they will not be allowed to leave the classroom unless it is an emergency or at the immediate request of an administrator, counselor or parent. Unused hall passes cannot be carried over from one term to the next, and are not eligible for extra credit points at the end of the term. Students who consistently exceed the five-minute expectation risk have their hall pass privileges revoked. Students must be on time to class if they wish to use the hall pass.

SCHOOL PROPERTY AND EQUIPMENT
Students who lose, misuse, waste or break equipment, room facilities, materials or supplies will be fined the cost to repair or replace the damaged or wasted items. This behavior may also negatively impact their citizenship.

DEFACING ANOTHER STUDENT'S WORK
Students who intentionally deface or destroy the work of another student will receive a “0” for the same assignment, and will not be allowed to make up the lost points. They may also suffer a drop in citizenship.

CHEATING
Cheating is defined as one student allowing another student to work on their assignment for an extended length of time (longer than 5 minutes), claiming the work of another person as their own, or tracing when tracing is not permitted. A student who is involved in an incident of cheating will have the option to redo/restart their project or receive a zero on the assignment. Cheating may result in a drop of their citizenship grade.

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP
Students who have excused absences are allowed additional time (as needed) to complete their assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor about additional make-up time.

LOCKERS
It is strongly recommended that students take advantage of utilizing an art locker to store their art supplies and projects for the semester. Lockers are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Students who wish to use an art locker will need to bring a combination-style lock from home, and the combination will be given to the instructor (which will be kept on file). Lost or stolen items are not the responsibility of the visual arts department.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
The use of a student's Chromebook during class time is only allowed when it directly relates to the current activity or assignment. The use of personal electronic devices such as, cell phones, headphones/earbuds, and tablets during class time are prohibited unless permission from the instructor has been obtained. If a student wishes to carry a cell phone on their person, the device must be silenced and kept out of sight during class time. Students who do not comply with this policy will have their device confiscated by the instructor. The visual arts department is not responsible for the loss or theft of any electronic device.
