Ridge Elementary 3-8 State Assessment Form
Dear Parent/Guardian,

The annual New York State English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Science assessments will be administered to grades 3-8 in accordance with the 2021-2022 Elementary and Intermediate level Testing Schedule.

While no single assessment provides a comprehensive summary of student achievement, when coupled with other diagnostic information, classroom performance, and teacher feedback, these assessments can provide information on student progress.  The state assessments give us an objective means of measuring how your child, the school, and our district are performing compared to other children, schools, and districts across New York State.  This helps to inform local curriculum, instruction, and planning for our programs.

The Board of Regents and the State Education Department have adjusted the 3-8 Grade testing administration.  The English language arts (ELA) and mathematics grades 3-8 assessments will each be administered for two days.

As a school community, we encourage you to have your child participate, as the information obtained from these assessments is valuable. We respect a parent’s choice to have their child refuse to take the assessments.  Please take a moment and fill out the form below to indicate your child’s participation in this year’s assessments so that we may plan accordingly.  This will allow for proper planning at the building level to ensure that students who are taking the assessments have a proper testing environment, and arrangements can be made for those students who are not participating.  Our request to receive this information by March 22, 2021 will allow building administration time to properly plan for the logistical considerations on these days.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child and this year’s administration of the NYS Assessments, please feel free to contact me by calling the main office at 631-345-2765.
