Getting Involved With Beacon
Thank you for your interest in supporting Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative's work to make sure everyone in Scott & Carver county has a home!

At Beacon we believe that there is a spectrum of housing needs in our communities and many avenues to engage in meeting those needs - providing shelter today, building homes for tomorrow, and impacting policy for the future to ensure that everyone in our communities and across the state has a place to call home.

Here are just a few ways you can support us in that mission:

Families Moving Forward:
Families Moving Forward is the area's only emergency family shelter. Our program has hosted thousands of shelter nights & has helped about 100 families find long term and stable housing since we began our mission in 2014. "FMF" hosts up to 4 families year round through our network of local congregations. With the COVID-19 pandemic we are hosting our families in a local Hotel in Chanhassen. Our biggest need right now is serving our family nightly meals, with more opportunities to be engaged throughout the year.

Prairie Pointe:
Our families in Families Moving Forward are unfortunately staying longer and longer in our shelter program due to a lack of deeply affordable housing in the area. That is why beacon is working with congregations to develop "Prairie Pointe'', a 42 unit apartment development that would create supportive homes for families from Scott and Carver county who make less than $25,000 a year and who are experiencing homelessness

Prairie Pointe will be a  “Family Supportive Housing Development” which means it will have on site services provided by the Volunteers of America which would include services such as child care, job training and placement, mental health and addiction services, and others. Supportive housing is a proven model for ending homelessness and housing instability.

We need residents of both Scott & Carver counties to lift up their voices & values to our local elected leaders through emails, phone calls, digital meetings, and more to show their support for proven housing solutions like family supportive housing and Prairie Pointe! Getting involved with our work to make Prairie Pointe a reality will impact the lives of dozens of families and hundreds of individuals in our communities.

Policy:
We know that providing emergency shelter & building homes isn't enough to match the size and scope of the need in our communities and across the state. That is why Beacon engages our state representatives around both short term and long term housing solutions. In the 2021 legislative session, we need to make sure that addressing housing insecurity and homelessness is front and center of the conversation!

Beacon Presentations:
We have done hundreds of informational presentations over the years about Beacon's work to end homelessness with organizations like the Lions Club, Rotaries, the Knights of Columbus, local non-profits, businesses, and gatherings of friends and families who want to learn more about us and how to support our work. By helping us spread our vision of home to people in your networks, we can engage hundreds of folks about how we can work together to ensure that all of our neighbors have a place to call home.

If one or more of these areas of our work excite you, please fill out the form below and our local organizer Justin Lewandowski will connect with you about how to get involved!
