How Schools Affect Trans Students
Thank you for your participation in my doctoral research study. The purpose is to document the effects of school actions, practices and policies on students in Connecticut whose gender identity does not conform with their biological sex, as these effects are perceived by parents, educators, and the children themselves. I use the term "trans" to include any students who do not conform to societal gender identity expectations, as transgender can sometimes imply switching within the binary construct. Your involvement in the study is limited to the responses you provide in completing this survey, and you are free to stop at any time without penalty, regardless of whether the survey is completed. All of your answers will be kept completely confidential, and there are no risks associated with your participation beyond those experienced in everyday life. Identifying information will be removed from the data that will be collected, and the information could be used for future research studies or distributed to another investigator for future research studies without additional informed consent. Completion of this survey indicates your consent to have your data used in this research. The information learned in this study will be shared with educational leaders and policy makers in order to inform their decision-making process, and will be available to any person who wishes to read it. Copies can be requested by emailing me, Chris McCarthy, at: schoolstrans@gmail.com . Any concerns or questions about my research can be directed to me at the same email.  Concerns about your rights as a participant should be directed to the SCSU HRPP office at (203) 392-5243.
