Swedish tune workshop with lydia ievins, 5/5/24
WORKSHOP INFO:
Scandi tune workshop with lydia ievins at a private home in Decatur, GA. The address will be sent with your registration confirmation.
Sunday 5/5/24, 2:00 to 4:30p with a break for potluck snacks.

Come learn a couple of Swedish fiddle tunes, with an emphasis on making your playing danceable. Teaching will be fiddle-centric — all other melody instruments are welcome (mandolin? cello? harp? accordion? flute? nyckelharpa?), we'll just ask you to pretend you're a fiddle for the day, and you'll get to interpret the concepts for your own instrument. Learn about bowings, ornaments, maybe some approaches to playing harmony lines. Tunes will be taught by ear.

The cost is $30 per person (sliding scale to $20). Advance payment is appreciated, and can be paid by Venmo or PayPal FF to @lydia413. Any questions about the workshop, payment or otherwise, please email lydiadance@gmail.com.

OTHER OFFERINGS:
The previous day, Saturday 5/4, lydia will be playing for a special day of Scandi events in Dahlonega. Tune workshop 11:30-2:00, dance workshop with dance teacher Meghan Mella from 2:30 to 5:30p,  evening contradance (plus some Scandi) with Dave and Robbin Marcus from 8 to 11p.

More about lydia:
lydia plays nyckelharpa and five-string fiddle for Scandinavian and English Country dancing. Her absolute favorite thing about playing in either genre is the opportunity to improvise rich harmonic lines. As an avid dancer herself, she infuses her playing with rhythmic clarity and sensitive phrasing to make it irresistibly danceable. Deeply immersed in exploring Swedish fiddling traditions, lydia is the only fiddler in the US who has earned both a bronze Zorn medal and a "diplom efter brons" in Sweden, for her fiddling in the Uppland tradition.
