Wildlife rehab is difficult. You must be prepared to have your heart broken multiple times, often in the same day even. It is frequently thankless while being incredibly rewarding. Lives depend on you continuing on when things get tough. We are interested in those who are prepared to fulfill obligations and responsibilities because in the end, wild animals depend on it.
Wild Instincts is the only facility in Wisconsin licensed to care for ALL of wildlife species allowed by law. We care for everything from hummingbirds to eagles and mice to bears. We generally admit at least 100 different species each year. Mark Naniot & Sharon Larson have rehabilitated over 20,000 on their permits and have 30 years of experience each. Mark is also an instructor for International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council.
Our release rate is 70% compared to the national average of 50%. We work extremely hard to achieve that so the bar is extremely high for our interns. You will be held to very high standards.
This is
NOT a summer camp but an immersion experience much like an intensive honors course or even wildlife rehab boot camp ;). You will learn a LOT about everything rehab and yourself, too.

You are applying to work at a wildlife emergency hospital and become wildlife paramedics. It is INTENSE and stressful. Therefore, it’s beneficial when we have interns who enjoy what they are doing and work well under stress and pressure. Please answer all questions honestly and completely. This will help us facilitate the best matches, not only for us, but for you as well.
