Toxic BBQ Volunteer Contact Info
WTF? You scanned a QR code at DEF CON? And it’s asking for your vitals? You’re not in the Twilight Zone, we just can’t seem to keep in touch without stuff like this. So if you’re comfortable handing that info over to us, read on.

Toxic BBQ is an entirely volunteer-run event produced by hackers just like you. For a more detailed run-down of what we do and how we do it, check out How Does This Work? on our the Toxic BBQ site.

The core organizers are a small team that fronts costs for the venue, swag, and equipment, and we fundraise on a limited basis to cover a portion of these costs. Over 800 attendees bring everything else (more food, drinks, ice, etc.) to the park. We can't do it without every single hacker contributing.

At the heart of this are crews of volunteers and their captains. The crews are:
  • Supply Run - Meets at 1PM under the big video wall at the Forum and heads to Costco to stock the larder. You pick and pay for a slice of the shopping list, and we load it into the van and transport it back to the park. Bring your per diem and feed 10 for the price of 1, or schlep meat in the desert heat on your own dime. Individual Costco membership and transportation preferred. Meets at 1PM under the big video wall at the Forum.
  • Setup - Also meets at 1PM under the big video wall and heads straight for the park. Hang the misters, clean up the tables, and light the fire! Get an early start on your Toxic BBQ adventure.
  • Grill - Staffing the Grill makes the BBQ happen, literally. Grab your friends or come alone. We train on site and have all the tools you need. We keep you hydrated, and new teams are rotated in hourly. Stay as long as you want, and walk away with ETERNAL GLORY.
  • Exodus - Clean up ensures all hackers get home safely, and it keeps us in the good graces of the Parks Department. We practice Leave No Trace by leaving the pavilion better than we found it. Starting at 9PM, help clean up, distribute leftovers, and get every hacker back to their lodgings. The park police kick us out at 10PM, so grab some swag and join the crew.
If you would like to join a crew or stay informed about direct volunteer opportunities, submit your contact info so we can get in touch. In addition to the above volunteer opportunities, we also have year-long equipment maintenance, special projects, and swag production opportunities. Have any remaining questions?  Just ask!

In general, we use Signal to communicate (which now supports usernames!) and Trello for organization. We follow the DEF CON Code of Conduct.
