All workshops are compliant with Credentialing and EXCELS requirements and are assigned Core of Knowledge hours. Each class is $15 if paid through Zellepay.com and $16 if paid through PayPal.com or by check. You will receive an invoice after you register. Registration is confirmed when payment is received. Space in some classes is limited.

January 4, 2024 Including Children with Special Needs in Your Program (SN 3) THIS IS NOT THE OCC REQUIRED CLASS.

We will focus on some specific disabilities, providing the information and hands-on experiences you need to work with all children, specifically those who may have special needs. Demonstrate and practice some simple accommodations. Review the requirements of The Americans with Disabilities Act and a variety of ways childcare programs may accommodate all children.

January 11, 2024 The Effects of Family Dynamics on Children in Childcare (COM 3)

Long-term effects of family instability and changes in family structure can result in behavioral, psychological, and academic outcomes for children. Consistent, high quality early childcare programs can provide support for children and help counteract long term, negative effects on children. As a result of this presentation, participants will acquire the tools they need to develop appropriate policies and set up supportive environments for all children.

January 15, 2024 Warm Up to Winter (3 CUR)

Winter weather presents additional challenges for teachers when access to outdoor play may be limited. Make staying indoors fun and educational, too. This workshop introduces participants to a variety of ideas for all ages and encourages consideration of developmentally appropriate practices. Lots of new ideas for children, preschool through school age, will be presented through hands-on activities in each major domain.

January 16, 2024 Basic Financial Strategies for Childcare Programs - Module 1 Budgets, Projections, and Planning (PRO 3)

Learn the value of developing a budget and how to use it for decision-making throughout the year. We will look at ways to plan strategically by understanding how to project business costs and generate additional income.

January 23, 2024 Playing it Loose in the Classroom – Loose Parts Play (CUR 2 CD 1)

Studies of children’s development demonstrate open-ended, self-directed play is vitally important for their well-being and development. Loose parts do not come with directions or an implied “right way” to use them and are only directed by a child’s imagination. This presentation will encourage participants to add “loose parts” to their classroom environments.

January 30, 2024 Storytelling in the Early Years (CUR 2) *

Engaging children in oral storytelling provides early educators with opportunities to focus on each child’s listening skills, vocabulary, grammar and understanding of culture, including languages. Storytelling can be adapted for all children of all cultures regardless of ability, age, skill level, learning style or home language. The take-away for participants is a toolkit of multiple ways to involve all children in language-based learning through daily instances of storytelling.

In this training, we will discuss financial reports and identify ways they can help you better manage your program’s finances. We will also become familiar with what internal controls mean in a childcare setting and how they can strengthen the fiscal health of your program.

What is marketing and why is it important? We will focus on marketing efforts that are both external and internal and discuss how program features and benefits can be used as marketing tools. Learn how data can inform marketing efforts in order to achieve greater success, become more cost effective, and use time more efficiently.
