Conference Theme: Masculinities in Transition
In the context of scholarship on men and masculinities, “transition” can mean many things. We may ask how critical studies of men and masculinities are changing, how discourse around men and masculinities are changing, how men’s lives are changing, or even how AMSA itself is changing – to name only a few of the directions that “transition” may take us in. “Transition” also carries specific connotations in relationship to transgender people, Trans* Studies, and Queer Studies. In hosting this meeting, we invite and embrace all of these various meanings.
While AMSA welcomes proposals that address “transitions” in any relationship to men and masculinities, we especially encourage proposals that address the following themes:
Transitions in men’s lives - including, but not limited to, transitions in health, economics, politics, migration/citizenship status, and aging;
Transitions in discourse around men and/or masculinities;
Trans and queer men and masculinities;
Efforts to encourage various forms of transition - including, but not limited to, social and political movements, non-profit and NGO programming, education, and therapeutic or medical efforts.
AMSA is also inviting new proposals focused on men and masculinities and:
Racialized (State) Violence
(Dismantling) Anti-Black Racism
COVID-19
As always, we also invite submissions that fit the broader remit of AMSA from all disciplines and traditions across the globe
