Should ARP funding be used  to support the arts?
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, also called the COVID-19 Stimulus Package or American Rescue Plan (ARP), is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden on March 11, 2021, to speed up the United States' recovery from the economic and health effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the ongoing recession.

As part of this plan, Buncombe County ($50.6M) and the City of Asheville ($26.1M) are about to receive an unprecedented amount of federal stimulus funding. Now is the time to let our local officials know that investment in the arts is crucial for small business and jobs recovery and to foster community healing from the trauma we have experienced over the past year.

What can you do?

1- Complete the County's general survey, which ranks the community's funding priorities. Fill it out before May 14th and make sure the arts are on the list. https://tinyurl.com/3ak5nvck

2- Let the Asheville Area Arts Council know why you support funding for the arts and how you think we can best invest federal aid into the arts sector.

With a long list of funding needs, why do you think it is important for the City and County to dedicate a portion of this federal aid to support the arts sector in particular?
How do you think funding for the arts should be invested? How does this investment benefit the entire community?
