Application for High School Students: Future in Music Mentorship Program
The Future in Music Program is a mentorship program that aims at making the process of applying and auditioning for music programs at universities, colleges and conservatories more accessible. The mentorship program is for high school brass players (particularly rising 11th and 12th graders) who are marginalized on the basis of gender in the brass-playing world, which includes women, transgender people, non-binary people, and others.
The mentorship program pairs undergraduate students who are members of these groups and studying a brass instrument at a music school with high school students who are interested in pursuing music in the future, with the aim of supporting and mentoring these high school students through the application and audition process. The program includes one-on-one mentoring sessions for mentees and mentors, as well as educational group sessions on specific topics.
The mentorship program begins in late August 2022 and runs through November 2022. Group sessions are typically bi-weekly, and attendance is always voluntary--come as often as is useful to you. Scheduling for advice sessions with your mentor is determined by the mentor and the mentee.
Application deadline: August 1st, 2022.
