Food Rescue and Delivery for Byrd Barr Place Food Bank -- December 2022
We are excited to offer another opportunity for cyclists to use their bikes to help feed hungry neighbors!

Each Thursday we do three activities: 
  (1) RESCUE food from PCC and take it to Byrd Barr, 
  (2) DELIVER food from Byrd Barr to homebound neighbors, and 
  (3) FILL Little Free Pantries in Byrd Barr's neighborhood.

How many banana boxes are you able to transport on your bike or with a bike trailer?
Don't worry, we won't be picking up bananas 100 percent of the time! Many grocery stores and food banks use banana boxes to store and deliver many different food items, from canned tuna, rice, and condensed milk to rice krispies for the kids! A banana box measures 10 inches high by 16 inches wide by 20 inches long and from PCC will weigh 30 to 40 pounds. Generally when volunteers have been using our trailers they have been able to carry 2 boxes.

Do you need to borrow a bike trailer from us?
These bike trailers are easy to install on your bike and at many of our parner food banks they will be available there for you to borrow while volunteering for us. After you are finished with your food rescue just unhook the trailer and it’s hitch from your bike and give it back to a food bank staff member. Currently our trailers work best with all bikes with a quick-release rear wheel. Compatibility for bikes with a bolt on wheel thru-axle varies. Email maxwellb@cascadebicycleclub.org to see if your bike is compatible with our trailers.
