Dear VBCPS AVID Student Candidate,

The AVID Elective is a 6th through 12th grade component of the AVID Schoolwide System that prepares students in the academic middle for admission to a four-year college or university. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID students take the AVID Elective throughout middle and high school to expand the skills needed to be successful in advancing academically with the ultimate goal of college and career readiness.

AVID Students:

 1. Have a grade point average between a 2.0 and 3.5  (secondary) or predominately DP's or P's (elementary).

 2. Demonstrate appropriate classroom behavior.

 3. Demonstrate good attendance.

 4. Demonstrate the motivation and desire to prepare for entrance to a two- or four-year college or university.

All information shared on this form will be used for recruitment and will be held confidential.  Once your application has been received, a teacher recommendation will be sent to the teacher indicated on the application to provide a recommendation.  Once applications have been reviewed, a time for an interview will be sent. Upon completion of application review and interviews, AVID students will be notified of their acceptance into the AVID Elective.
